The Lazarus Ministry is designed to provide immediate support to a family following the death of a loved one. Parishioners trained for Lazarus Ministry call the family with condolences on behalf of our priests and the parish community and offer to meet with the family in planning the funeral liturgy. At the meeting, the Lazarus Committee members can reflect Christian hope to the grieving family as they help select the appropriate readings and music and decides how the family will participate in the funeral liturgy. The Lazarus Minister is there to offer support and whatever assistance they can and usually attends the wake service and/or the funeral Mass. Members should possess an understanding of the Rite of Christian Funerals, be compassionate and caring, and perform as the representative of the church.
